The Hotel New Grand - Yokohama

There's a typhoon on our door step and we're stuck in the house today. So, I've dug into to my backlog of images and decided to post up some pictures I took last month. I had been wanting to take a closer look at the Hotel New Grand across the street from Yamashita park.

As I walked from the train station toward the Hotel I passed by Nicky & Nichole; hanging out as usual in Bashamichi.

There is no shortage of Chinese restaurants in Yokohama.

Along the way I ducked into the Port Memorial Hall to take care of some personal business. I love the interior of the Hall.

Time to move on.

Passing by Zou No Hana...

This bronze statue in Yamashita Park gets quite a bit of attention.

I have arrived at the Hotel New Grand. This Hotel has a lot of history. Part of it is new and then there is the old section which is (as they say) quite Grand!

A stroll around the exterior shows plenty of detailed design work everywhere.

The open courtyard in the center of the Hotel has a beautiful marble fountain.

Continuing around the outside this is part of the modern section where the doormen great customers as they arrive by taxi.

A couple more views of the old main entrance.

Time to go inside for a look around.

Wow! I feel like I've been transported back in time to the golden age of traveling in style.

Simply elegant in every detail.

I feel under dressed in such surroundings. I should have rented a tuxedo for this outing.

I see by the clock above the elevator that it's time for me to head back to the train station.

Someday I'll have to return with Emi and have tea in the Hotel restaurant.

The blue skies of mid morning have been replaced by grey.

A parting shot before arriving at the station.

It was a wonderful day and The Hotel New Grand far exceeded my expectations. Life is good.

Thanks you stopping by!
Mike

    1. Hi Elena! It was a pretty fast typhoon - it ran by us dumping a ton of rain water. Fortunatly where I live the wind wasn't to bad and we survived in one piece.
