Jogashima Island - February 2023: A beautiful day!

I woke up and looked out the window. I could tell that this would be a good day to visit Jogashima Island.

It takes about an hour and a half to get from my house to Jogashima Island using the train and bus. That's not much time and the public transportation isn't very expensive. If it was twice the price it would be worth it.

Every time I go to this Island I feel so happy to be here.

I don't think I will ever get tired of visiting Jogashima.

The last time I was here I took all my photographs in black & white.

This time I'd shoot them all in color except for the last two.

One cannot tell by looking at these pictures that there is a cold wind blowing today.

The cold wind makes my eyes tear up and then it's hard to see through the camera viewfinder.

That's okay, I'm so excited by what I'm seeing, I just keep wiping the tears from my eyes and I keep taking pictures.

It's time to cross the big lava field.

This is the easy part.

Then it starts to get harder to walk.

Eventually I have to climb up and over big lava ridges...
It's worth the trouble to get to the waterfront.

It's so peaceful out here today.

Sometimes there are big waves crashing on the rocky shore line. When that happens it's terrifying and exciting at the same time.

Today it's not so terrifying but it is exciting!

On the right hand side of the picture you can see a fisherman standing on top of the rocks.

Now there are two fisherman.

The ocean swells come in and swirl around the rocks like water flushing in a toilet bowl.

It's well past lunch time and I'm getting hungry. It's time to start heading back.

As I started to crawl over the lava ridges I looked back and that's when I decided to take a couple of photographs in black & white.

Last shot of the day before going back to the bus stop. A silhouette of the two fishermen.

Thanks for stopping by!
