Ocean Scenes - Izu Atagawa Beach

After our last trip to Izu-Atagawa I had to return. I don't know why but the way the ocean looks here is different than other locations on the east coast of the Izu peninsula.

We arrived around 13:00 on a Monday. Early afternoon but the grey sky made it look like it was much later in the day.

On the right side of the picture is a jetty. On this side of the jetty the beach is smooth sand.

On the other side it's rocky and tumultuous.

Move to the left of the right and the scene changes a lot.

Walking out on the jetty.

Usually there are several fishermen on the jetty but today I have it all to myself.

Looking at the hotels from the jetty. Our hotel is the one on the left-hand side.

Sometimes the waves crash over the jetty, today it's pretty safe, just a lot of salt spray.

The right side of the jetty has a lot of concrete armour units stacked against it.

The concrete armour units look like giant toy jacks from a child's "ball & jacks" game.

The surfers have come out to play.

Ride the wild wave!

Then go back and bob around in the surf until another big wave comes by.

I keep turning around and looking at the waves on both sides of the jetty.

I'm very happy out here. The world is at peace out here. I feel so lucky to be here today.

Emi (my wife) has had enough of the jetty and wants to walk around before we check into the hotel. So, off we go!

It's getting darker. Hotel check-in time is 15:00. We don't want to be late for check-in, that's when the free happy hour starts!

The jetty is in the background (right side of the picture) and another breakwater is in the foreground.

This is where the Atagawa river flows into the sea.

A room with a view! Well, this is the view from our hotel room.

We're on the 3rd floor. The dining room is on the second floor. The Onsen (hot spring bath) is on the 5th floor. There is also a bar on the 5th floor and all the drinks are free!

At first I thought that the power lines ruined the picture but then I changed my mind because "it is what it is".

Next morning. It's a beautiful morning.

After breakfast I went out to take more pictures, Emi went to the hot bath to soak some more. Hotel check-out time is 10:00.

The sky is still cloudy and grey. I don't mind. I like it.

I don't have a lot of time before check-out so I'm moving all over the place trying to get the one-last great shot!

For some people all these ocean scene pictures might get to be monotonous. I get it. I actually took far more pictures than I'm posting here. Coming here has been a dream come true for me.

I just got a call from Emi on my cell phone. She says she is checking out now!

I said, "just one more picture and then I'll meet you in front of the hotel".

The view of the front of our hotel.

As we walked up the hill to the train station I took the real last shot. This is a hot spring water pumping station between to hotels.

Thanks for stopping by!
