It was the big day, the first day of the "Yokohama Jazz Promenade 2014" and we were there!
Every year the city of Yokohama organizes a two day Jazz event; bands play on street corners, in front of buildings, in parks, they play everywhere. Some bands are small, some are full size orchestras, some members are young, some more mature; it's a marvelous blend of all kinds of jazz music. And, there is also the fans. The people attending are of all ages; men, women, children, all different and yet we are all friends under one umbrella, the umbrella of jazz music. These are some images of the event.
They were young but their hearts and soul were in the right place.
They soon attracted a good size crowd.
They had his attention. He kept nodding approval throughout their performance.
When their set was up we crossed over the Ooka river to check out the performances near the Sakuragicho train station.
This swinging little combo was playing guitar jazz along the lines of Wes Montgomery.
Two old friends enjoying the day.
And, a cold beer always goes well with live music.
On the other side of the train station this band was serenading with some lively Bossa Nova infused tunes.
She was certainly enjoying the music.
Who needs sheet music when you have a notepad.
If you play it, they will come!
In front of the Queens Tower we got our first taste of "Big Band Swing".
Another pretty face in the crowd.
There's more than one way to get around town.
We'll stick to walking as we worked our way over to the park in front of the World Porters shopping mall.
It seems that we missed out on the Popeye look alike band.
No problem, these guys were doing just fine. Take The "A" Train!
This band was attracting quite a diverse group of listeners.
What a backdrop for a performance.
The little ones like jazz too!
After the lengthy but very enjoyable set in the park we decided to start working our way back to Hinodecho train station.
This charming restaurant in Yoshidacho looks very inviting; maybe next time.
It wouldn't be my blog without this shot.
Passing through Noge is always entertaining.
The evening crowd spills out onto the street - let the party begin!
This waitress is going somewhere to get something (see how informative I can be).
They don't call this an entertainment district for nothing.
Everything becomes magical at night.
Getting to the train station always has an obstacle or two to contend with.
At last, we're on the platform ready to go home.
Like Jazz, we're all friends on the platform too!
Today's camera was a Panasonic GX7, lenses 15mm, 25mm and 42.5mm.
Thanks for stopping by!
Mike
