Destination - Hyōgo-ken & Kyōto-fu (Part 1)

We signed up for a 3 day group tour to travel to various places in Hyōgo-ken & Kyōto-fu. Our trip started by taking a Bullet train from Shin-Yokohama to Gifu-Hashima station in Gifu Prefecture. At that point we boarded our tour bus and we were given box lunches and were whisked away on an express way to our first destination.

Mikatagoko (Grouping of 5 lakes). We drove to the top of a mountain where on one side we could see the Japan Sea.

And, on the other side we could see the 5 lakes. Very nice, now get back on the bus, we gotta go!

Next up, we drove to Shisho train station in Kyoto prefecture where we would get off the bus and go for a ride on train.

It's a small station. We had to cross over the tracks to get to the platform on the other side.

Here comes the train!

All aboard.

It's a one car train, small but comfortable.

As a person the thoroughly enjoys trains this is a real treat for me.

The train runs along the Nagu coast.

Very scenic even through the person next to me with the window seat never looked out the window. But, he didn't complain every time I stood up and leaned over him to take pictures out the window.

We finally got off the train at some station I can't remember the name of it Tango-Yura station.

And, our trusty tour guide was waiting for us to get us back on the bus and head for our next destination.

Next - Visiting the Shizaki Inari Shrine

There's a lot of steps to get to the top of the hill where the shrine is. I'm 63 years old and in the group we're traveling with I feel like a youngster. Some people took awhile to get to the top.

It's a nice view from the top.

Our guide and some of the members of the group.

Heading back down to the bus.

A dock in the bay near the bus.

The last stop of the day was our hotel for the night.  We stayed at the Royal Daiwa Hotel in Kyoto-Miyazu just a short drive from the shrine. The hotel was fantastic! Our room was huge. The food was first class. The hot spring bath was as big as a swimming pool.

This was the view from our room window at around 5:00 am. In the foreground one can see 12 tour buses parked in the parking lot.

Day 2 is for the birds!

Actually we went to the Ine fishing port to ride a tour boat around the bay. There were quite a few Chinese tourists on the boat that were enjoying taking pictures of each other feeding the seagulls.

Heading out to sea.

Seahawks and seagulls know the deal. Follow the boat and get a free meal.

This guy was just an arm's length away from me.

These gulls too!

There's Emi! She's the one with the big smile on her face.

The Seahawks are big and they have sharp claws but that didn't stop the Chinese tourists from hand feeding them.

Fish farm?

Saying goodbye to the SS Minnow as we get back on the bus and move on.

We are here.

We are in the Ine fishing town and the lady in the pink coat is our town guide.

The Ine fishing port is a naturally protected bay which allows the people here to build these distinctive houses right on the waterfront.

The guide is very enthusiastic. Emi listens to her every word with great interest; I do what I aways do, follow behind and take pictures.

The building on the left is a local Sake brewery; it smells great. Unfortunately a tour of the brewery and a few drinks in the tasting room are not part of our tour. So disappointing.

Like I said, I follow and take pictures.

I poked my head into one of the boat houses and spotted this old glass float.

It's very peaceful here.

A few of our tour group milling about.

A birds eye view of the Ine fishing port.

In a few days I'll post part 2 of this 3 part trip report.

Thanks for stopping by!
Mike
