Going North to Wakkanai Japan (part 2)

Picking up where we left off. At 10:00am  everyone boarded the tour bus and we drove for about 5 minutes and we arrived at the former Seto House (a registered tangible cultural property).

The former Seto house was constructed in 1952 by Seto Tsunezo, who was involved in the trawl fishing industry.

The man in the middle is our Seto House guide.

Welcome to the kitchen.  This is the wood burning stove.

Emi listens to the guide explain about how meals were prepared and served in the good old days!

The people on the tour were divided into two groups. While one group was upstairs' we were downstairs'.

Now we're on the second floor. Very cozy here.

This is a photograph of Wakkanai  fishing port back in the '60s when it was the most busiest.

This house was designed to resemble Japanese-style inns from the Meiji Era (1868-1912) to the Taisho Era (1912-1926), with architecture combining elements of "East" and "West".

This house was gifted in 2007 by the Seto family to the city of  Wakkanai.

Going down the narrow/steep staircase back down to the first floor.

While everyone was putting on their shoes Emi and I spent a minute checking out this cozy room that was nicely warmed by the sunshine coming in through the window.

Next it was time to make a long drive to the restaurant where we would eat scallops for lunch. And, here we are!

We are in the middle of nowhere which is where the scallops are gathered and processed. This restaurant serves scallops many different ways.

Inside the dining room we were served an variety of scallop dishes and all were delicious.

There is a store attached to the restaurant that sells all kinds of local seafood products. While everyone was shopping I went across the street to take pictures of the seacoast.

Not as windy today as it was yesterday.

It's very peaceful here.

After lunch our next destination is Lake Kutcharo where we will feed swans.
Here we are, feeding the swans.

There is a Wikipedia page "here"  with information about Lake Kutcharo

The swans were happy to be fed by us.

A flock of ducks.

One or two of the swans watched us leave, the rest went back to doing whatever it is that they do when tourists don't stop by to feed them.

Our bus was the only vehicle in the parking lot. It's probably a lot busier here in the summertime.

This is our bus tour guide. She was good at her job and kept everyone laughing and smiling as she told us stories about the places we were visiting and places we passed by on the bus..

This is the tour coordinator. She handles all the tour business and is a representative of the tour agency.  She met us at the airport in Haneda and stayed with us 24X7 until we returned to Haneda. She was also good at her job.

The store at the lunch place gave her 5 packs of curry to give us. The problem is that there are 29 of us. So, we played Janken (Rock Paper Scissors) with her until there were 5 winners. Neither Emi nor I was a winner 😞.

It was late afternoon and getting dark by the time we returned to the hotel. Emi and I went up to our room for a drink before dinner.

Next is part 3 where we'll visit the northern most point in Japan and then go to the airport to fly home.

Thanks for stopping by!
Mike
