Destination "Niigata" - July 2023 (Part 3)

After all the excitement of the sightseeing boat what could we possibly do next?
Of course! We'll go the the Iyoboya Kaikan! This is Murakami City's Salmon Museum. https://www.iyoboya.jp/

The museum is actually pretty interesting.

Afterwards we went across the parking lot to have lunch at "Salmon House" restaurant.

The food was delicious!

Emi and Hiroko are getting ready to eat, I'm still waiting for my lunch to come 😢

After lunch we walked to the stream where the Salmon come to do their thing. Unfortunately this is not the season for that.

Fortunately it was a beautiful day.

After our Salmon adventure we went into the City of Murakami to visit a local history museum. We love museums!

Museums are fun!

Day 3? Day 4? We've been doing so much that it's hard to keep track of what day it is on our Niigata adventure.

The next morning we checked out of our nice duplex cottage. Yuko and Yamato-kun went to play golf again and we (Hiroko, Emi and I) went off for another day of sightseeing.

First stop of the day is the swan refuge at Lake Hyoko.

In the winter there are thousands of swans here. In the summer not so many.

We don't care how many swans are here, this place is great for the nature walk around the lake.

There are quite a few nature photographers here today.

Water lilies are are blooming. Or, are they lotus? Maybe both!

This place is very well maintained.

Not only are the flowers blooming, so is the romance!!!

Enough of the romance, time to move on.

We stopped at a place that made ceramic roof tiles... next.

We visited a small shrine for eels... keep moving.

Here we go, next we visited the Michi-no-Eki (Roadside station) Aga-no-sato.
And, why did we visit this place? Because this is where we can ride the Agano river tour boat!

We bought tickets for the 12:00pm tour and 5 minutes prior we were led out to the boat.

It was a slow day for the tour boat, there were only 4 passengers on the boat. There are seats for 40 people.

This is an Onsen hotel along the Agano river. There were several of them.

Other than the three of us this was the other passenger.

Our tour guide sang us a folk song.

This boat tour has been featured on the long ruining animated TV show Sazae-san.

After we returned to the dock we were introduced to the pilot.

Our guide waves goodbye to us.

After the boat ride we ate lunch at the Michi-no-Eki Aganosato and then we headed for the Inn where we would be staying for the next 2 nights.

This is Chinseikan Onsen Ryokan. This place is in the middle of nowhere. I don't think they have a website. Reservations are made by phone. We were greeted by the owner and she was very friendly. After checking in we realized that we had nothing to drink. All our food and drinks were in Yuko and Yamato-kun's car and we didn't know when they would show up. There were no stores near the Inn so we went for a walk.

Thank God! After walking for about a half hour we found a Lawson convenience store. We bought drinks and ice and returned to the Inn to start the party!

To be continued... Yes, there is a part 4 next!

Thanks for stopping by!
Mike
