The day before yesterday we visited Miyajima Island. The island is just off the coast of Hiroshima and you have to take a ferry to get there.
Passing by an oyster farm.
A view of the island from the bridge wing.
It's a charming island. Everyone who visits is happy to be here.
Tourists walking around the shops.
A beach front hotel.
Our tour group walking toward the famous Itsukushima shrine.
There are small dear all over the island. They are very friendly and don't mind if you pet them.
Some other visitors dressed very nicely in Kimonos.
The world famous Itsukushima shrine torii gate is under construction.
The shrine is quite ornate.
The shrine is large and built over the ocean. I think because of the salt air the shrine is in a constat state of repair. Some carpenters tools.
Some wood to be used for a repair.
Another view of the Torii gate.
The torii gate is the only real reason to visit the island. Oh well.
Check out this link if you want to see what it looks like when it's not covered by scaffolding:

Just strolling around the shrine.
A peek at the Daisho-in Temple.
More shops.
We sat down to take a break and some curious deer came to check us out.
Soon after the deer visit we caught the ferry off the island.
End of the day and we arrived at Hiroshima station to take a bullet train home.
Thanks for stopping by!
Mike
