Bashamichi is a district in Yokohama and the main street that runs through Bashamichi is often used for parades and festivals.
On this particular Sunday we were going to a restaurant for a late lunch when we heard loud music in the distance.
Well, when we hear music we're like moths to a flame. And, to our happy surprise we discovered this street festival.
There were several different groups of dancers and they performed one at a time and then moved further down the street and performed again.
The performances were outstanding. The dancers were so energetic and the costumes were so colorful.
This girl was really getting into her moves.
Such good fun for everyone.
Smile for the camera.
The kimonos were stunningly beautiful.
The dancers were beautiful too!
Bringing up the rear was the flag waver.
Yokohama is such a great and eventful city. Almost every weekend something is happening. On a different Sunday than the bashamichi event there was street festival in Nihon Odori.
These girls were twirling batons (you don't see that every day).
Following the baton twirlers was a group of junior varsity cheerleaders.
Then came the varsity squad.
They make the high kick look easy.
Farther down the street two ice sculptors were putting on a show.
They started with two solid blocks of ice.
Not only are these guys good, they are fast.
And, now it's time for the kind of typical walking around people pictures that I love so much. I hope everyone enjoys looking at these pictures as much as I like making them.
