Akita part 2 - Tamagawa Onsen!

Here's part 2 of our Akita adventure.

The Tamagawa Onsen is a mecca for Cancer patients. The waters, minerals and many other things about this onsen (hot spring) are considered beneficial for people suffering from cancer and other health related problems. I won't go into the details of what's so good about it; anyone truly interested can look it up for themselves. Having said that, this place is truly amazing.

This is the Inn where people can stay for short or long term visits.

Even though it was the end of April there is still a lot of snow on the hill sides.

The heavily mineralized boiling hot waters  from the springs run down the valley to the inn.

The air is filled with the smell of sulfur.

Fortunately there is an easy trail to walk around.

It's quite common to see water boiling up in the river bed.

Huts are set up in the valley for patents to spend long periods of time laying on naturally hot rocks.

Hot gases continuously shoot out of the ground.

Do not put your hand in the gas - you will be scalded.

As I walked around this place it felt like I was in prehistoric times. I would not have been surprised to see a Pterodactyls fly overhead.

The streams run white with minerals.

Some people skip the huts and just find their own place to lay down.

The land that time forgot.

Most of the older wood structures have been damaged by the sulfurous atmosphere.

More boiling water erupting in the river.

A last look before catching a bus to our next destination.
I wish all the people who come here for help with their health problems the best of luck.

Akita adventure part 3 coming soon!

Thanks for stopping by!
Mike
