Kaminoyama Onsen - Part 2!

 The adventure continues...

When we returned to Kaminoyama Onsen town we got off the free shuttle bus in front of the Kaminoyama Castle.

One of the members from our morning trip to Zao joined us (or maybe I should say we joined her) for a guided tour of the castle. She had called ahead of our arrival and arranged for a free tour guide. This is our Guide explaining some Kaminoyama Onsen history to us.

This is the view from the top of the castle.

Some of the exquisite roof tile on the castle.

A picture of the front of the castle as we depart. At this point our new friend left us and headed to the train station. She was going to visit Akayu Onsen where she planned to rent a bicycle and ride to a vineyard to pick grapes and then go to a winery!

We continued to walk around the historical part of Kaminoyama Onsen town. This was a small shrine near the castle.

A manhole cover with the Kaminoyama Onsen mascot cast into it.

By following the walking map that the visitors information center gave us we found this historical hot spring foot bath.

We always enjoy a good foot bath!

On our way back to the hotel we passed by this public bathhouse. We should have gone in but we were running a little low on energy.

We arrived back at the hotel in time to see the sun setting from our room window.

Time for dinner! Cook your own at the table. This is famous local beef; yum, yum!

Cooking on a small frypan at the table.

And, who doesn't like beef sushi? It was actually very delicious.

Cold beer and beef sushi! It doesn't get any better than that!

A nightcap in the room to end a wonderful day.

The next morning before breakfast I went out to take a picture of our hotel.
We stayed at the Azuma Ya Hotel. Hotel Website
It's a very nice hotel, big room, good service and food, and a great hot spring bathing facility!

Another buffet style breakfast.

Emi's enjoying her breakfast.

After breakfast I went for a little walk around the hotel area. I discovered another public foot bath.

Excellent!

Like many Onsen towns some businesses survive and others don't. This street of gift shops and restaurants didn't survive.

At 10:00am we checked out of the hotel and rode the free hotel shuttle bus to the train station.

One last look around before going into the station. After seeing the manhole cover I now realize that the clock is also styled after the town mascot.

Here comes our Shinkansen train bound for Tokyo and this is the end of our story.
It was a fantastic three day trip and I wouldn't coming back here again.

Thanks for stopping by!
Mike
