Adventure in Mie Prefecture - Part 2

At the start of the second day we visited Meoto-iwa.
We have to cross this bridge to get there.

And, here we are!
"Where ancient travelers purified themselves, two rocks rise from the ocean. Thick ropes mark a sacred barrier and symbolize the bond of marriage".

From a different angle we can see the rest of the tour group. The guide is holding the flag.

And, from yet another location.

On the other side of the rocks there's a nice beach park.

The hillside is covered with cherry blossom trees in full bloom.

The Meoto Iwa is also part of the Futami Okitama Shrine.

Proof that I was there.

Next up we visit the Ise Jingu Geku
Everyone must get purified before we enter.

In we go!

On the other side of the wall is the shrine. Once we enter photography is prohibited. 😒

It seems like everywhere we go there is a lot of walking up long flights of steps.

Now for a visit to Okage-yokocho

Okage-yokocho is a neighborhood of shops selling sweets, drinks, food, and other trinkets and gifts.

They say this place is always bustling with people. They are right!

Some people don't appreciate the crowds.

While other's don't mind it at all.

Some people dress up for the fun of it!

A sake (rice wine) shop complete with a stand bar 😋

They have cold beer too!

The bus terminal. Buses continuously come and go dropping off more people to help increase the crowd size!

Emi had been looking for a sweets shop so we could try the local delicacies. All the shops on the main shopping street were full with long lines to get in. Lucky for us we found this shop off the beaten path near the bus terminal that had plenty of room.

It's very cozy by the kerosine heater.

Our sweets and tea were promptly served and both were delicious.

Emi in the sweets shop. She's wearing a bright green shirt so it's easy for me to find here in the crowds.

Last shot of part 2: A friendly rickshaw driver.

Part 3 will be coming soon! Next up we visit the Ise Jingu Naiku and then climb Mt. Asama!

Thanks for stopping by!
Mike
