Cape Manazuru & Atami City

We get around. This time we visited Izu peninsula and made a stop at Manazuru and spent the night in Atami.

We arrived at Manazuru station and Emi went to the visitors center and picked up a map so we could walk to Cape Manazuru.

About an hour later we arrived at the Cape.

Nice place.

Hiking back up the hill (there's always a hill to climb) I took one look back at the cape and then we started the trek back to the train station.

To get to the cape we took an overland route, to get back to the train station we followed the coast.

Break water.

The town is built on a hill. Like I said, there's always a hill to climb.

It's such a peaceful place.

Back on the train and the navigator is already planning our next steps.

We arrive at Atami station.

A lot of people are milling about the station area.

Mostly girls.

There are a couple of streams that run through Atami. Just follow them and before long you'll arrive at the ocean.

The Atami Marina.

An early morning view of the town from our hotel room.

Now for the highlight of our trip. The Atami Museum of Art. The Museum is built on a hill (no surprise) and one needs to ride several escalators to get the the exhibitions.

The escalator ride is a trip!

I feel like I'm in the Time Tunnel.

Still going up.

The celling in this part of the entrance is a giant kaleidoscope.

No time to stop and admire the kaleidoscope celling there's more escalators to ride.

We finally arrive at the main exhibition center and we visit the Noh play theater.

Photography is prohibited in all the other exhibitions except this one photograph in a foyer. Mainly you only can see my reflection.

There's a tea ceremony garden and a bamboo grove on the museum grounds.

As good a place as any to drink some tea. By-the-way I shifted the camera from color to monochrome.

Bamboo always looks better in black & white.

Maybe not but it's my camera and I can do what I want with it.

A view of the ocean from the museum grounds.

Well, our bus has arrived and it's time to go!

Thanks for stopping by!
Mike

Bonus shots!
