Destination - Tokushima City, Shikoku!

The purpose of this trip was to visit the Otsuka Museum of Art and I'll get to that but first I'll start at the very beginning because that's a very good place to start!

We arrived at the Tokushima airport. It's small but clean with a convenience store inside.

Just outside the airport is where we caught our bus.

A change of buses at Naruto City.

The bus stop was conveniently located in front of the train station and there was even a foot bath at the bus stop.

The second bus took us to our first destination...

...Bando! This is the site of a German prisoners-of-war camp that was in use from 1917 to 1920.

This is the German POW museum.

The museum was very interesting. This sign provides the basic background information on the whole POW thing.

After the visiting the museum and POW camp site we walked about 20 minutes to the Bando Train Station.

It's a small station.

But, it does have the essentials.

No one rides the train for free. With ticket in hand it's time to board the train bound for Tokushima city where we will check into our hotel.

And, here it comes!

It's a nice train.

Day two: We're going to the Otsuka Museum of Art.

While waiting for our bus I took this picture of our hotel. It's very conveniently located in front of the train station and bus terminal. "Hotel Sunroute" http://www.sunroute-tokushima.com/en/

After about an hour long bus ride we arrived at the Otsuka MOA.

It's a long escalator ride from the front door to the MOA entrance. But, it's worth it! This place is amazing!  And, admission is expensive too!

The MOA's website https://o-museum.or.jp/

All the paintings in the museum are reproductions of the originals. They are reproduced on ceramic plates and you are allowed to photograph them, heck you can even touch them. These are some of my favorites.

Yes, this is a reproduction of the Sistine Chapel Ceiling.

The view from one of the MOA's outdoor coffee shops.

Note: the museum is huge and it will take one a few hours to see everything. The restaurant is not cheap but the food is good. They say there is a long line to get in on the weekend; we had no problem on the day we visited.

Last day: The view of the bus terminal and...

...the train station from the hotel dining room window. By-the-way, the hotel was outstanding. If we ever go back I plan to stay there again.

Thanks for stopping by!
Mike
