Exploring the Nobi Kaigan!

In keeping with my effort to explore places closer to home I've set my sight on the beach of Nobi Kaigan. The first thing to do is take the train to Nobi YRP station. From the station it's only a 10 minute walk to the Nobi Kaigan Park.

Day 1:
I arrived about 10:AM and it's still very hazy here.

Nobi Kaigan park is an interesting place. Concert steps lead down to the ocean.

This is not the kind of beach one comes to to go for a swim; although one could go for a swim if the really wanted to.

This is the kind of place for people to go fishing, go for a walk, read a book, and sit on a chair and stare at the ocean.

From Nobi Kaigan park one can either head toward Miura beach or the Ferry Port at Kurihama... i'm going to walk to Kurihama.

In my opinion the walk toward Kuriham is the most scenic.

Looking out across the bay at the Bosso peninsula I can see large cargo ships passing each other in the haze.

The beach along the Nobi Kaigan is a mixture sand beach and rocky coast.

It looks like I have this place all to myself today.

This is actually a color photograph but because of the haze and light it looks more like a black & white picture.

The Sun has poked through a hole in the clouds and brought the color back to the beach.

Cormorants are hanging out on the breakwater.

Several years ago a typhoon hit this area and destroyed parts of the Nobi Kaigan (coastal road). After that they built these huge concert walls.

Getting close to the end of the beach road.

A last look back at the Nobi coast before the road curves inland toward Kurihama.

Day 2:
I wasn't completely satisfied with the pictures I took yesterday so I returned with a wider lens determined to take more pictures on the beach closer to the water.

I started at Nobi Kaigan park again and followed the same direction toward Kurihama.

It's much clearer today, almost no haze.

In some places there isn't much room between the seawall and the ocean.

Standing on the beach looking toward Miura city.

The sandy beach is dotted with large rocks.

I like the way the gentle swells roll in and swirl around the rocks.

Again I have the beach all to myself.  Lucky me.

Looking out to sea.

I had to retreat to higher ground. It was getting to hard to stay on the waterfront and not get wet.

Just near the end of the beach road access down to the waterfront is easier.

However, I've decided to remain on higher ground and enjoy the view.

Last shot of the day: Like yesterday I take a look back at the Nobi coast before heading inland to Kurihama.

Thanks for stopping by!
