Atami Adventure Part 2!

This is the second half of our visit to the Atami MOA and our overnight stay.

At the end of part 1 we had left the Museum of Art and returned to the train station. We had over an hour before we could check into our hotel, so we needed to kill some time!

Here we are in front of the big gleaming Atami train station. In front of us is a big puddle of water. That puddle is actually part of the Ieyasu-no-yu foot bath.

The Ieyasu-no-yu foot bath is a place for weary travelers to soak their feet in natural hot spring water. Take off your shoes and socks, role-up your pant legs and have a nice soak in steamy hot water. This place is usually very crowded.

We skipped the foot bath and started walking through the Atami Ekimae Shotengai.

Atami Ekimae Shotengai is a traditional covered shopping arcade with a large variety of shops and restaurants selling local products and foods.

Care for some dried fish?

There are several vendors selling grilled food on a stick. Just get a stick and sit on one of the many benches and enjoy!

The train station is high up on a hill and we just kept walking down hill toward the ocean. This is the Atami Ginza shopping district. A few years ago this area was dying but now it seems to be coming back to life.

In Atami wherever you go you're either walking uphill or down hill... unless you're at the ocean. We arrived at the ocean. This is the Moon Terrace; it's part of the Atami Water Park "A landscaped park with a European-inspired elevated terrace overlooking the harbor, plus a fountain". It's a pretty cool place. Most of the people we see here are just like us; killing time waiting to check-in to a hotel.

Next to the water park is Sun Beach. Another nice place to kill time.

Time to start walking back up the hill it's almost 3:00pm check-in time! Back through the Atami Ginza street.

Back up the long and winding road that leads to the train station and to our hotel.

We made a brief stop at a supper market to pick up some drinks for our room 😎. Emi at the store's self check-out.

And, this is our hotel for the night! Oedo Onsen Hotel - Atami
It may not look so grand from the outside but it is a great place to stay. The entrance and front desk is on the 5th floor. We stayed in a nice suite on the 10th floor. There was an amazing massage chair in our room. The hot spring was terrific and the all-you-can-eat buffet dinner and breakfast was out of this world!

The next day we checked out around 10:30am. As I look back on my way up-hill to the train station I had a feeling that we'd be staying here again in the future.

The street is lined with hotels and shops.

Squid drying in the sun too!

Back at the Atami Ekimae Shotengai shopping arcade.

There are two main streets in the arcade. This one seems less popular than the other.

So, we're going back into the popular street; we need to do some shopping before we go home.

A lot of older people with a lot of energy walking around here.

We're checking out the shops to buy some food to take home with us.

This fishcake shop looks good!

We've decided to buy a variety of their fishcake to take home.

It all looks so good.

Mission accomplished! We've got our fishcake now we can go home.

Out on the train platform waiting for our train

We're not the only one waiting.

Here comes the train!

Inside the train we get a comfortable seat and off we go! We're headed home.

Thanks for stopping by!
